PIE GUY: Tom Gekas

Akropolis Pastries was established in 1979, and to this day remains in its original location, operated and managed by the founding family. Thomas and Aliki Gekas arrived in Canada in 1970 from Thessaloniki Greece and after a challenging few years the both decided to bring to the City of Toronto a unique pastry at the time unavailable in any commercial establishment. Their menu consisted of primarily of 4 main course items; Spanakopita (Spinach Pita) Tyropita (Cheese), Kreatopita (Beef), and Bougatsa (Custard), all of which were and still are made by hand. The unique hand made filo and fillings drew in thousands of customers, and the slightly expanded menu continues to serve Toronto and its visitors 27 years later.

At Akropolis we take pride in the taste and quality of our food, and maintain the authenticity by providing to our customers not only the highest quality ingredients, but a taste of home with a handmade touch.
